Shettleston: Our History 2

Learning Activities: MAKE

Historical Map Of Your Area

In our film, “Shettleston Legacy”, the kids followed the route of a historical map of the area (the heritage trail). You can make a similar map of your own area.

  1. Begin with your house and other places that you visit most often: school, shops, clubs, parks, friends’ houses etc. Make a rough map of these places and draw roads connecting them.
  2. Next, add any significant buildings or places into the map: churches, statues, old buildings, memorials, woodland, lakes etc.
  3. When you have found out more about your area you can add in important historical places. For example, where famous people lived, the site of old buildings, the site of buildings that are no longer there, where famous events happened, , former methods of transport (such as trams).
